San Francisco

Posted in Mr. Charming, Restaurants, Travel tagged , , , , , , , , , at 7:38 pm by smilinshell11

I left my heart in San Francisco. 😦 I loved it down there and can’t wait to visit again.  We flew in Thursday evening (after a flight delay because of thunder/lightening at Sea-Tac).  Friday morning we headed out to Alcatraz.  I’ve always wanted to go for some reason (I think it was after my Gangester Tour in Chicago).  It’s a lot smaller than I was expecting for some reason.  You have to visit “The Rock” if you ever go to San Francisco I will say that much.

When we got back, we had lunch and walked around Pier 39 and then to Ghirardelli Square.  That night we had dinner reservations at Kokkari which has some amazing Greek food.

Saturday morning we headed out to Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael (about 1/2 an hour north of San Francisco) for Puppy Fun Day (next post). 🙂  After that, we headed down to Mountain View which is where Mr. Charming grew up to see his old elementary school and house.  We ended up playing mini-golf and a little Skee Ball at an arcade before heading back.

Sunday morning we woke up and rented bikes to bike across the Golden Gate Bridge.  It was a beautiful bike ride and not too busy.  We then headed to ride the cable car (another must do in San Francisco). As we were going up and over the hills I keep thinking, “Rice-A-Roni, The San Francisco Treat” *Ding* *Ding* 🙂 We then to drive down Lombard Street (we had walked down it earlier that weekend).  I can’t image living on that hill, but it was fun to drive down!  We then headed to the park where the opening from Full House was filmed.  We then had to head to the airport for our flight home.

Random side note, but while we were down there we had a Nissan Altima Hybrid.  It was the first time either of us had been in one or drove it and I have to say we were rather impressed.  I think that might have to go on our short list next time we are looking for cars (though it’s currently not available in WA state).

Get Ready

Posted in Guide Dogs for the Blind, Mr. Charming tagged , , , , , , at 12:21 pm by smilinshell11

We are going to be doing a bunch (well a bunch for Mr. Charming and I) puppy sitting starting this Thursday. We will have Donata this weekend, Topeka the next weekend, and then Topeka again at the end of May.  Loyola is down in Oregon moving right along through her phases, Simmons heads back in about 2 weeks, and Lomita in June.  Malta (who is being raised by Loyola’s family) is a little fireball.  Mr. Charming had her at the last business meeting and she didn’t calm down for him (or anyone) for that matter for 2+ hours!  She was making me tired just looking at her!

With that, check back soon.  🙂

Want Versus Need

Posted in House, Money, Mr. Charming, Poll tagged , , , , , at 3:44 pm by smilinshell11

I’m having that major dilemma right now.  I feel like I need this: Dyson DC18 Slim Vacuum  Now you might think, “$250 for a VACUUM!!!” but anyone who has ever had one tells me that it the BEST vacuum they have ever owned.  My current vacuum is something like this: Bissell Upright Bagless  Granted I could sell my old vacuum on Craigslist and get something for it.  The Dyson I want is 1/2 off plus if I order before midnight, Mr. Charming found a code for free shipping.  Right now we have mostly carpet throughout the house but plan on soon putting in some sort of wood flooring and in that case, do I really need a nice vacuum? We don’t have a dog that lives with us (though we might puppy-sit once a month for a weekend) or really bad allergies.

To buy or not to buy, that is the question.

Shiny New Toy

Posted in Computer, Mr. Charming, Stores, Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , at 1:49 pm by smilinshell11

Let me introduce to you my shiny new toy:New Laptop

Isn’t she pretty? 🙂   She is a HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC with Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 2 Ghz, 4 GB of Ram, and 64-bit Operating System (Insert Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor’s Grunt from Home Improvement).  My Dell was slowly dying and it was time to upgrade.  It is running Windows Vista Home Premium which I’m slowly becoming a fan of Vista (or more like I have to or would be kicked out of the house).  In the initial set up, Mr. Charming showed me this Mac Ad which is very true if you have ever had to deal with Vista:

I got my shiny new toy with a  killer deal at Costco which reminds me that they just opened one within 15 minutes of the house. Woot!

Random

Posted in Mr. Charming tagged , , , , , , , at 4:17 pm by smilinshell11

There isn’t really a title for this post because it’s random.  First things first, I’m not too thrilled about the new packrat updates on facebook. Thanks to Mamikaze, I have wasted many hours on that addictive game. 🙂 It’s actually a used to be great way to pass the time.  There are new features I really like but overall, the game has changed and is not what it used to be.  Therefore I’m doing playing for now.

I’m super excited about my new antique china hutch.  It was SO hard to find something that wasn’t huge, would fit in a corner, match our table, and not expensive.  I was posting some stuff on Craigslist on Saturday and thought I would take a look through the furniture section.  I emailed the gal on Saturday evening, Sunday we went to look at it, and Monday evening we picked it up.  It’s perfect for the corner.  Here is a picture of it with the china and vases in it:

The antique key for it still works also which is pretty neat.  It is a little lighter in color than the table, but in the back corner, it appears darker.  I just need to find something to put on top of it now.

I’m sure we aren’t the only household out there that has had several remotes.  We had 4: The media center, TV, receiver, and Comcast (which the last we never used).  Mr. Charming gets a “Tech Fund” every year from work (Yeah, I know must be nice huh?) 🙂 Well, I can’t complain because he usually ends up buying something that we would never go out and buy our own, but hey it’s free so why not?  So this is the latest addition:

It’s a Logitech Universal Remote.  It’s pretty sweet I have to say.  The next thing up is a new laptop for me.  Mine is sooooo slow.

I think that is all the randomness I have for right now…

Hawaii

Posted in Mr. Charming, Travel, Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , at 8:28 pm by smilinshell11

I’m back. 🙂 Hawaii was wonderful.  I am unable to post a slideshow from flickr (if someone knows how to in wordpress, please let me know) but I am able to link them.  Here is the slideshow from Kauai: Click here   and from Maui: Click here   We were able to see some beautiful sunsets in Maui and the whole time we were there the weather was perfect. Mr. Charming and I didn’t want to leave and can’t wait to get back. It was one of those vacations you don’t realized how much you needed until you are there.

I’ll be posting more often now that things have slowed down. My next update will be about another Guide Dog puppy we had (Loyola).

Picture Update

My sister was at Best Buy one night and picked this up for me. I did pay her back, but that reminds me, she still owes me money. Anyways, it’s a lot of fun and is really accurate. My balance sucks.

Wii Fit

Over the 4th of July weekend, Mr. Charming and I decided we would head over to Leavenworth.  We did some hiking and tubed the Icicle River (there is a reason they call it the Icicle River). This is a picture of the ski jump on the hike we went on. I think Mr. Charming was trying to kill me The hill was like this: | instead of \.

Picture of Leavenworth from our hike:

The entrance to our Bed and Breakfast. We have been there 3 times and love it.

Bed & Breakfast

The garden my Dad planted for me is finally in season.  We have been enjoying the raspberries and blueberries so far (especially since they are so expensive in the stores).  The corn is almost ready and the carrots and onions are getting bigger.

Berries & Veggies

We also had our annual BBQ and went to a wedding down in Vancouver. It was SO hot the weekend of the wedding and every place we went either had no A/C or it was broken. I don’t remember the last time I sweated that much. My next update in pictures will be about our weekend to Lopez Island in the San Juan Islands with my family.

Life Stages

Posted in Kids, Mr. Charming, Travel tagged , , , , , , , , , , , at 1:18 pm by smilinshell11

Awkward: That pretty much explains my current life stage.  I feel like I have been reflecting on it WAY too much lately and am finding myself in a rut because of it.  I’m 25, married, with no kids who loves to sleep.  Mr. Charming and I one day will love to have a family, but when we got married, wanted to travel and just spend time together before having kids.  His whole 2 years of traveling kind of threw a wrench in the last part of the previous sentence.  We have had the chance to travel to Europe and FINALLY booked our vacation to Kauai and Maui for the end of this year.  Before we have kids, I have my list of places I want to go because my philosophy is you never know when you might get back (if ever).  Here is my list (random tanget I know) in no particular order: San Francisco (Mainly to see Alcatraz), Phoenix (Grand Canyon), Caribbean Cruise/Disneyworld, Europe again (Back to Germany & Italy), and Maui (which is soon to be crossed off).  Anyways, back to the topic.

I would say that 98% of my friends have kids.  It’s like being 25 and having no kids is something not typical.  I feel like I don’t relate to them because mainly what they talk about is their kids.  Granted it’s not like I have a lot to talk about so talking about their kids doesn’t bug me.  Just being at a different life stage is akward.

Maybe I should start popping out kids to fit in….Just Kidding. 🙂
