Blog Reader & Blogroll

Posted in Blogroll, Blogs tagged at 10:45 am by smilinshell11

Can anyone suggest a good reader to read blogs through? I have been using the RSS feed through Windows Vista Sidebar but it doesn’t seem to update all that fast and when I get bored at work, I would love to be able to read it through any computer.

Also, please let me know if I can add you to my blogroll.  I’m always looking for new victims blogs! 🙂

Puppy Van (Not the Truck) :)

Posted in Guide Dogs for the Blind tagged , , , at 5:52 pm by smilinshell11

Usually I am unable to make it to the puppy truck because it falls on a Friday (which is when I work).  Today it happened to be on a Saturday so I was able to make it.  It happened to be the van that brought the puppies up, not the truck so I guess I’ll just have to go to another one!  I figured after a year of working with Guide Dogs, you have to see at least once truck right?  Here are the puppies that arrived on the truck today (or at least the ones I can remember) though I probably butchered the spellings.

Neutron-Can’t remember if Black or Yellow Lab
Nuance-Yellow (Female I think?) Lab
Donata (She is in our club and our leader’s new puppy)-BF
(This group was born November 4th.  They are 1/2 golden, 1/2 lab.  Their mother is Petal who was raised by our leader and their dad is a black lab)
Tricia (YFL)
Tabasco-Didn’t see this one come off

And most importantly, some pictures!
Colby was spayed the other day so she has on a pretty collar. She was career changed yesterday so she was headed back to be placed by Guide Dogs.

The Guide Dog Van with Michelle:

This is the new puppy to our club Donata. She was SO soft and cute.

This picture almost makes me cry…It’s like the Guide Dog Circle of Life. 🙂 The guy who is petting the bigger dog (who was going back), got the puppy that is also in the picture.

Loyola in the Snow

At the beginning of January, we had Loyola for a few days while her raising family went snow camping.  It happened to snow, so I was able to take her out and get some pictures.

This is her “Will you just hurry up and take the picture because I’m freezing out here” look:

All cuddled up inside:

She was sitting by the stove.  Not because of the cookies, because it was warm.P1020945

I just got the email that Colby was career changed today and will be going back on the truck tomorrow.  I know she will find a wonderful home through Guide Dogs.  It doesn’t come as a surprise as she had so many issues (relieving/chewing), but also hard as our leader had worked so hard with her.

I might head down to Tacoma to see the puppy truck tomorrow.  Our leader is planning on getting a new puppy tomorrow (she knew this before Colby was going back).   Yippee for new puppies! 🙂

Posted in Stores at 1:00 pm by smilinshell11

Dear Target:

I’m not sure what has happened with your customer service lately but I hope you figure it quickly.  The past 3 times (at least) I have been to your store you have had 2 (yes 2) employees checking people out.  Now I understand if I came at an off time, but when I go to the store it seems to be when EVERYONE else decides to go (like after work or during lunch).  Your lines have gotten so out of hand that I’ve had enough.  Today after a very rude encounter with one of your employees, I’m done. I dropped my stuff and walked out.  It’s not worth my time or couple pennies saved.  When you decide to get your “line situation” figured out, I’ll be back.  I do except more like what your motto says.

3 Accidents

Posted in Guide Dogs for the Blind tagged , , , , , , at 1:24 pm by smilinshell11

Last night we had our outing down at The Supermall. The mall is designed in a way that you can do a big loop which works out great because we are able to go into different stores along the way and end back in the food court. We were half way around when another girl and I were bringing up the rear of the pack (neither of us had a dog with us). We were talking and I look up to say, “Hmmm Simmons tail looks weird”. Next thing we know he has an accident (pee) which he must have drank a gallon of water because it wasn’t a small little accident. Not two second later, Colby pees right next to Simmons. Two seconds after that, Lomita starts to squat! The handler who had Lomita was trying to get her to an exit when she decided “plop a squat”. So there our club is, 3/5 of the dogs are looking like, “What did I just do?” and we are all trying hard not to laugh. 🙂 Let it also be known they had all just relieved (both #1 and #2) 1/2 an hour before all of this.

Ahh the joys of raising guide dogs puppies and taking them to public places.  🙂

Colds Suck

So much for updating quickly.  I came down with a cold New Years Eve and have been feeling super lazy.  Ask me what I have done over the past couple of days and I wouldn’t be able to tell you because I did nothing!  Okay, that’s not totally true.  Yesterday my mom, sister, and I went up to Seattle to get a massage at Ummelina .   Ahhh is all I have to say.  We went there last year and you can’t beat all that is included for $90.  It starts with a foot massage and tea in their relaxation room.  You are then taken to get an hour massage (so wonderful).   After that. you head to a shower that is to die for.  They use all organic and natural products so you don’t come out feeling like you were covered by an oil slick.  Then you head back to the relaxation room for more tea and a warm towel around your neck and back.  I’m relaxed just thinking about it. 🙂

So backing up a little bit, Mr. Charming had ACL knee replacement surgery the middle of December.  He did a clean tear playing soccer a couple of months ago.   He had his other one done about 7-8 years ago so he knew what was coming.  Since he was going to be at home for a few weeks, we decided to get Netflix. I know, I know, we are like the last people on the block to do so. 🙂 It is super nice to also be able to watch movies and shows through the Xbox 360.

We also had snow: Lots of snow.  So much that I really was starting to hate it after oh day 2.  The worse part is getting out of our driveway (which is on a small hill) onto the hill in front of our road to get down the hill. Yes, lots of hill + snow = me not driving.  Thankfully I had loaded up on food and we had no place we needed to go. We did have a white Christmas which was kind of fun.

For Christmas, we went to my parent’s house that morning and then Mr. Charming’s family came over (his parents, two sisters, brother-in-law, and our nephew). We had a wonderful time spending the day with family.  Note to self for next year though, remember to pull out the ham and defrost it….Oops! 🙂

With that, it’s time for me to take a break.  Next update will be Guide Dog related.  🙂
